1. Support from sponsors.

You would need support from sponsors to make your business events running smoothly. You’ll also need it for decisions which needed a high authority level.

2. Set goals.

Emphasize and set your goals is the most important thing. Each of the goals must have a well-suited deliverable. For example, if your event is about morale of worker, then one deliverable might be a clean process to rate morale of worker or the proceeds from a research on morale of worker.

3. Control the planning process.

The mistakes on an event is one of the considerable things and surely most event organizer don’t wanna it happened. One general mistake that made by many managers isn’t consolidating the planning process with the process in the field. In this case, the process in the field is the proper event itself.

4. Get the right resources and assemble the right team.

Use high sponsorship level to get the right funding for your event. This is allows you to hire and choose the best people for the job.

5. Set the communication between people who work in the event.

This is the last thing and the most important thing. In there is no communication between people who work in the event, I’m sure the event would disorganized.

NFIB (National Federation for Independent Business) is one of the leading small business organizations in the nation, and they’re offering a new money making opportunity to all interested video producers / Entrepreneurs / viral YouTubers. They’re holding a contest awarding $5,000 cash and a free trip to the 2008 National Small Business Summit in Washington DC for the best 30 second YouTube clip answering the question “Why does small business work for America?”

The contest judges will weight these videos by the following criteria:

50% Originality
25% Creativity
25% Answering the question

So really, the key is the creativity part, since it covers 75% of the grading criteria. This seems like a great opportunity for college students, because of the cash, the free time, and the right sense of humor and originality.

As mentioned already at the Business Pundit, Forbes is having their second “Boost your Business” competition looking to award $100,000 to an individual with the best business plan. Don’t take this competition light heartedly though, because it’s pretty serious, evident by last year’s very deserving/qualified winner.

To enter the contest, you need to type up your business plan in a clear, convincing 500 words (that’s not fluff). That’s due May 31. Then if you make it to the next round, you’ll need to film a 30 second elevator pitch of your idea.

From the feeling of this competition, it seems for suited for those with established businesses that could grow wildly with just a little bump of capital. Having said that, I also think that big business would love to finance some deserving, driving, college student startup if they do have a viable enough plan and credentials.

It’s definitely a long shot that I don’t think I’ll try out, but it’s something you should consider if you have an offline business idea with high potential. I say offline because online business doesn’t seem like it has as viable of an upside by just pouring $100,000 into the business coffers. The growth opportunities with offline businesses seem much larger than growth opportunities of online businesses with the same $100k. However, I’d love somebody to prove me wrong.

Perhaps this blog’s owner, Ryan, who may or may not have taken in $60,000 worth of funding a while ago, could elaborate as to whether 100k could grow an online business at a competitive rate. Uhm.. but anyways, this will definitely be an interesting competition to follow.
